Fans of Rick and Morty have been able to watch a brand-new anime series based on the well-liked duo for a few months now. The first teaser for the appropriately titled Rick and Morty: The Anime has already been made public.

The anime series, which is a joint effort between Adult Swim and Telecom Animation Film, will make its premiere on Adult Swim and Max in 2024. View the first season teaser below.

Last year, Adult Swim and Max ordered series of Rick and Morty: The Anime. At the time, it was mentioned that although the anime adaptation will feature similar themes and humour, it will function as an independent series and won’t be closely tied to the ongoing plotlines of its parent series.

The publication of multiple anime shorts (Rick and Morty vs. Genocider, Summer Meets God (Rick Meets Evil), and others that were well-received by the show’s audience preceded the series order. After helming the shorts, Tower of God director Takashi Sano returns for the series.

“The family relationship is tested by Rick and the gang’s multiverse-straddling adventures, but they always rise to the challenge. Jerry is not an exception to this sight, which is so life-affirming. It is a privilege to have the chance to provide a fresh account of this remarkable family. Enjoy their adventures, I hope!”

RICK AND MORTY IS STILL MOVING FORWARD DESPITE BEHIND-THE-SCENES TURMOIL

The seventh season of Rick and Morty, which debuted on Adult Swim recently, has undergone significant alterations as a result of the turmoil surrounding co-creator Justin Roiland’s dismissal.

After it was revealed that Roiland had been accused of domestic abuse, the actor was fired from both his behind-the-scenes work on the show and his role as the voice of the lead characters. The voices of Rick and Morty were recast, with Harry Belden playing Morty Smith and Ian Cardoni as Rick Sanchez.

Thankfully, it wasn’t anything the creators of Rick and Morty: The Anime had to worry about. Without Roiland’s vocal work, the original anime shorts had Japanese voice acting with English captions, and the new series will follow the same format.

Fans were divided when season 7 of the show debuted, with some applauding the new actors for their ability to accurately portray Roiland’s voice and others finding it difficult to accept such a significant shift.

Immediately following the premiere of the newest season, Cardoni disclosed to The Hollywood Reporter that his primary focus as Rick was “doing justice to the writing.” He declared:

“I know you mean audibly, but it’s more about honouring the literature that has been assigned to us than it is about the voice per se. The script has so much intentionality and deliberateness in it. The tale we tell is our obligation, even though we can’t always see where it will lead.

That’s why I consider narrating the story to be my main duty every time I record. However, I received feedback early on in the session that I should be more arrogant towards the other characters. My major issue was having to let go of that portion of myself in order to reach the parts of me that reside in Rick and vice versa.”
