Being a child is frightening because everything is bigger, the world is vast and unknown, and everyone knows a little bit more than you do. However, everything is frightening to Orion, the main character in the recently released animated movie Orion and the Dark, especially the dark. SERIES
The anxious young man will soon be taken on a fast-paced journey that might help him overcome his teenage anxieties. The trailer above gives you a taste of that trip; it shows Orion facing his biggest fear and discovering that the Dark is far friendlier than he ever could have imagined.
DreamWorks Animation’s Orion and the Dark’S is based on the novel by Emma Yarlett and written by Charlie Kaufman (I’m Thinking of Ending Things). It’s a tale about facing your fears head-on and discovering they might not be as scary as you thought.
ABOUT ORION AND THE DARK’S
Orion looks a lot like a typical elementary school student quiet, unassuming, with a crush on someone behind their back. Beneath his fairly ordinary façade, however, Orion is a ball of teenage angst, consumed by absurd worries of everything from dogs to bees to the ocean to cell phone waves to deadly gutter clowns to tumbling off a cliff. Of all his phobias, though, the one he fears the most is the darkness, which he must face every night.
In order to show Orion that there is nothing to be scared of in the dark, Dark whisks him away on a roller coaster journey around the globe when the real-life manifestation of his darkest fear pays him a visit.
Orion has to choose if he can learn to accept the unknown, give up letting fear rule his life, and ultimately experience joy as the odd couple becomes closer.
The teaser above introduces us to Orion and his numerous worries shortly before he encounters the Dark, who shows up with a boom and carries the terrified child away to meet the other night creatures.
You see, The Dark has a list of all the children who are afraid of him, and you can be sure he is double-checking it. “Do you really believe that in one night, you can solve every fear I have?” Orion queries. The Dark responds by promising that “one night can change everything!”
