Netflix has announced the development of another football-based series called “Receiver,” inspired by the success of the docuseries “Quarterback.” Amon-Ra St. Brown of the Detroit Lions, George Kittle, Deebo Samuel of the San Francisco 49ers, Davante Adams of the Las Vegas Raiders, and Justin Jefferson of the Minnesota Vikings have all been brought in to help make the series authentic and full of professional credibility.
NFL Films is producing this rugby-based docuseries in association with Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes 2PM Productions and NFL Hall of Famer Peyton Manning’s Omaha Productions.
WHAT IS ‘RECEIVER’?
An eight-part documentary series titled “Receiver” chronicles the aforementioned receivers as they negotiate the 2023 NFL season and deal with demands both on and off the field.
Last year, Manning admitted to having some difficulties persuading other quarterbacks to participate in a second season of the show, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter. Just before the 2023 NFL season got underway, he declared, “To use a corny analogy, we’re definitely in the two-minute drill here.” Someone calling us back and saying, “I want to do it,” would be wonderful. I’m surrendering my pride because yesterday, three of the starting quarterbacks told me no.”
Joe Zucco, NFL Films’ supervising producer, stated on the Netflix website Tudum, “We were thrilled to see audiences all over the world diving into the lives of NFL quarterbacks last summer.” “We think the incredible abilities, commitment, and enthusiasm of the best wide receivers in the NFL—along with one tight end—will make an ideal follow-up.”
