‘Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar,’ the much awaited web series from filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali, is scheduled to debut on Netflix. The announcement that May 1st will be the series’ official premiere date has fans even more excited.

The show portrays courtesan lives and is set in the pre-independence era. According to the show’s one-line storyline summary, Koirala’s character Mallikajaan, who is in charge of a courtesan house, is threatened by a new adversary named Fareedan, who is portrayed by Sinha, while a rebellion in British-ruled India takes root.
This is Bhansali’s first attempt at using a digital medium; it’s an epic tale of love, power, treachery, fight, and, in the end, freedom. Bhansali referred to the series as his largest project and said it would pay homage to movies like Mother India, Mughal-e-Azam, and Pakeezah in a 2023 interview with Ted Sarandos, the CEO of Netflix.
Within two weeks of its release on March 8, the first song from Bhansali’s soundtrack “Sakal Ban,” which features lyrics penned by Amir Khusro and vocals by Raja Hasan, had amassed over 8.9 million views.
