TV fans everywhere are going to have a new addiction beginning June 2024, based on the debut trailer for the HBO Original Series Fantasmas. Julio Torres, a longtime writer for Saturday Night Live, is the director and creator of the comedy, which was initially revealed by Deadline in 2022 under the working title Little Films. In 2020, he made the concept’s initial proposal to HBO.
Torres plays a fictionalized version of himself in the six-episode series, which follows him through a different New York City in search of a misplaced earring shaped like a little gold oyster. He encounters bizarre people on his travels, including Emma Stone, Dylan O’Brien, Julia Fox, and other frequent guest actors.
In the May 2024 teaser, Torres is shown running into these wacky folks while traveling. In one moment, O’Brien is shown wearing nothing but red underwear, giving the impression that Stone is playing an exaggerated version of a fake Real Housewives cast member.
In April 2024, Torres stated to Entertainment Weekly, “I really loved the idea of telling short stories and having a show of vignettes.” Furthermore, it seemed to me that I am not the type of performer who would be drawn to portraying me in other roles. My personal belief is that I am a master of ceremonies.
