24 HOURS WITH GASPAR

HERE ARE THE LATEST REVIEW UPDATES OF THE SERIES CALLED 24 HOURS WITH GASPAR

A brand-new Netflix film is called 24 Hours With Gaspar. A murder mystery based on the same-titled novel, which I haven’t read. I simply bring this up to emphasise that I have no idea how closely it adheres to the novel. Although the movie is from Indonesia (original title: 24 Jam Bersama Gaspar), the plot is international.

In addition, I may state that we live in a dystopian society in which communities are the best way for people to get along and where human life is not given much importance. Yes, I realise that this sounds a lot like the world we live in today, and it’s simple to see how close we have come to this apocalyptic scenario

See our review of the film 24 Hours With Gaspar below. Try Netflix for it starting on March 14, 2024.

GASPAR HAS 24 HOURS LEFT

The main character, private investigator Gaspar, only has 24 hours to live, which is why the book is called 24 Hours with Gaspar. The cause is an unfixable cardiac condition. Although the doctor genuinely tells Gaspar that he only has a maximum of 24 hours left, this inevitably leads to a countdown that lasts 24 hours, as if his heart were a bomb.

He wants to figure out how his childhood friend Kirana vanished before his life ends. So, he launches an investigation after finding information that points to Kirana’s enigmatic disappearance.

This brings us to Wan Ali, who has a close connection to a human trafficking organisation. It appears that this is how he has amassed his wealth, in fact. In order to help divide the money, Gaspar and five other people are now preparing to loot Wan Ali’s jewellery business in his final hours.

SOME ABRUPT MOOD CHANGES

Although I was eager to watch this Indonesian film on Netflix, I did not enjoy how quickly the tone changed. This was what always happened to me when I had flashbacks. I am aware that they play a significant role in the narrative.

particularly for Gaspar, the protagonist. Seeing what he went through as a child and his closeness with Kirana prior to her disappearance are, after all, crucial components.

Perhaps the song selection was my primary complaint. The songs’ intersections with Gaspar’s apocalyptic present are just too cheery and fluffy. I understand that this is also a way of illustrating the contrast between a pleasant and carefree childhood and the darker aspects of adulthood.

However, the abrupt shift in tone and attitude was simply too much. You don’t have to choose overly adorable Eurovision-style music to chose nicer, more innocent songs. Full disclosure: I adore everything about Eurovision, even its ridiculous and cheesy aspects, yet it rarely works in a genre film. Unless, of course, it’s a horror comedy!

The director of 24 Hours with Gaspar is Yosep Anggi Noen, whose previous work includes The Science of Fictions (2019). He’s already been acknowledged for his efforts; that film was nominated for a Golden Leopard at the Locarno Film Festival in Switzerland.

As previously stated, the same-titled novel served as the inspiration for this Netflix film. Mohammad Irfan Ramly, who has previously worked on a number of genre films, wrote the screenplay. And there are a number of genres covered by this most recent Netflix film. 24 Hours with Gaspar is classified as a drama, mystery, thriller, action, and criminal film.

As of March 14, 2024, 24 Hours with Gaspar is available on Netflix.
