An individual’s growth is greatly influenced by their schooling. Generally speaking, schools are described as a miniature version of the actual world, where individuals from different walks of life converge to share knowledge and, eventually, form lifelong bonds.

Not everyone, especially those who attended boarding schools, where pupils faced severe penalties and repercussions for any behavior, has positive recollections of their time in school.

REVIEW UPDATES OF THE PROGRAM: CONS, CULTS, AND KIDNAPPING

The Program: Cons, Cults and Kidnapping, a new Netflix documentary series, tells the tale of numerous young people who attended a boarding school that was more appropriately described as a concentration camp.

For want of a better term, the documentary series tells the story of “The Program,” a cult that accepted—read: abducted—problematic—read: erratic—teens and trained them to become “better” adults.

Former pupils of this alleged boarding school who describe the atrocities they went through in this cult are interviewed in-person for the television program. The show describes how a cult abducted toddlers and teenagers who disobeyed their parents in order to send them to the Academy at Ivy Ridge, a boarding school that sexually, physically, and emotionally mistreated them.

The former students discuss their experiences being coerced into The Program at the Academy at Ivy Ridge and how they were brainwashed by a group of people who believed they were teaching young children.

In order to expose the true nature of abuse to these rehabilitation programs, the show features victims of mental and emotional abuse breaking down in front of viewers as they tell their story.

According to one account, a small child who was both in the automobile and involved in the accident that killed her father was held responsible for it. The girl, who is now a woman, tells how much she detested Ivy Ridge for forcing her to accept responsibility for an accident over which she had no control, forcing her to endure the anguish of her father’s death repeatedly.

A different account describes how a small child was instructed to express her frustration by repeatedly smashing a towel against a mattress while acting as though the mattress represented her mother, who passed away from cancer when the girl was just two years old.

The two testimonies presented here do not even begin to cover the extent of how this cult played with the emotions of these young children in an effort to shape them into adults who would go on to traumatize more people, thereby starting a vicious cycle of abuse.

Parenting-wise, The Program: Cons, Cults and Kidnapping is an intense viewing that gives you a lot to consider. The fact that the parents refused to withdraw their kids from the program in spite of their request demonstrates how poorly the parents, who were meant to be these young pupils’ guardians, handled their children.

The trauma endured by numerous young minds who were coerced into joining a cult that severely mistreated and indoctrinated them is depicted in the show.
