Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and Lindsay Calhoon Bring came up with this version of the Pretty Little Liars idea. With several allusions to classic horror films (like Carrie and the first Halloween), it centers on “new characters in the new fictional town of Millwood, PA.”
The first season’s synopsis read as follows: A string of unfortunate incidents nearly tore the working-class town of Millwood apart twenty years ago. Present-day Little Liars: a diverse group of teenage girls who are being harassed by an unidentified attacker and forced to atone for both their own and their parents’ 20-year-old secret sin.
