The highly anticipated “darkly comic horror” series Passenger, which consists of six parts and is set in a small, close-knit town, has been waiting for a few years and is well worth the wait. In his debut screenwriting endeavor, actor Andrew Buchan (Broadchurch, An Honourable Woman) wrote the script for Passenger, which stars BAFTA winner Wunmi Mosaku as the former investigator at the center of the case.
“I’ve always loved shows where the known and unknown collide,” Buchan said in a statement. “Where communities are confronted with horrific and unexplainable events, and you, the spectator, have nothing in your toolbox to provide an explanation.
“When I first started writing the screenplays, I wanted to write something far-reaching and undiscovered, but I also wanted to set it in a familiar setting. Lancashire felt like the ideal location for it, having grown up there. Without a doubt, the people of Chadder Vale will be tested to the breaking point.
PLOT OF THE PASSENGER SEASON 1:
“After a string of bizarre and unusual crimes, the tight-knit society in the little Northern village of Chadder Vale is turned upside down. “Since her arrival five years ago, Former Met Police Detective Riya Ajunwa has been on the lookout for the “one big crime” or challenge that will bring her back to life. “Katie Wells, a local girl, is then inexplicably stolen one night.
Bloodstains on the seats of her abandoned automobile are discovered. But before Katie vanishes and returns the following day, unscathed, the community hardly has time to report her missing.
“The other villagers don’t ask many questions, and things carry on as usual. All of this, however, seems wrong to Riya, who is a relative outsider to the Chadder Vale way of life. The town’s citizens turn to naive beliefs and place the blame on outside forces like the fracking plant and its manager Jim Bracknell (David Threlfall) as a string of bizarre events and progressively horrific crimes begin to take place there.
As things get stranger, the locals refute Riya’s ridiculous idea that something is wrong in this village. But why do they fear this so much? However, Riya is soon dragged into a world that is unlike anything she has ever seen.”
