HBO already produced the critically praised series John Adams, starring Paul Giamatti, so this won’t be the first TV show to focus on a founding father. Former series regular Benjamin Franklin, portrayed by the late Tom Wilkinson, is now the focus of the narrative and is portrayed by the even more well-known actor Michael Douglas.

The book “A Great Improvisation: Franklin, France, and the Birth of America” by Stacy Schiff served as the basis for the television series. The official series summary is as follows:

The Franco-American alliance of 1778 and the peace pact with England in 1783 were crafted by Benjamin Franklin, who used his notoriety, charm, and cunning to outwit and outmaneuver antagonistic colleagues as well as British spies and French informants.
America would not have been able to win the Revolution without Franklin’s eight-year French mission, which is regarded as his most significant national contribution. It remains the finest single diplomatic tour in the history of our country, according to historians and diplomats alike.”
CAST FOR FRANKLIN SEASON 1:
Imagining Michael Douglas, a Hollywood legend, is Benjamin Franklin. Douglas won an Emmy for his performance as Liberace in the TV limited series Behind the Candelabra and an Oscar for his portrayal of Wall Street’s Gordon Gekko. Many may be familiar with him from his more recent roles in the Marvel Ant-Man series and from costarring with the late Alan Arkin in the Netflix series The Kominsky Method.
RELEASE DATE OF THE FRANKLIN SEASON 1:
On Friday, April 12, Franklin will debut exclusively on Apple TV Plus. The eight-episode limited series’ first three episodes will be accessible right away. One new episode will show each week after that till May 17.
