Ahead of the show’s June 13 premiere, a new teaser for Doctor Climax teases the concerns about intimacy and sex that the show’s protagonist, a real doctor who doubles as a contentious newspaper columnist in 1970s Thailand, poses to viewers.
Inspired by genuine letters from well-known columns from the era, the show is directed by Pairach Khumwan, one of the directors of the well-known series Girl From Nowhere, and Kongdej Jaturanrasmee, who is both the series’ author and the writer and producer of the hit movie Hunger.
In addition to using vintage images, interviews, and films from the Thai Film Archive, the directors and production team also drew from their own memories to recreate Thailand in the 1970s.

Introduce yourself to Doctor Nat, a dermato-venereologist who aspired to create exciting adventure novels. But destiny intervenes, and instead of writing action novels, he writes a sex-related column titled “The Climax Question” under the pen name Doctor Climax.
Since nobody wants to learn about their STD while drinking Merlot, the column provides answers to sex-related concerns that people would feel uncomfortable discussing with their peer group over dinner. In addition to following Doctor Nat’s personal life and his relationship issues, the column lets readers submit the most — ahem — pointed questions in an anonymous manner.
CAST AND CREW OF THE DOCTOR CLIMAX SEASON 1:
A stellar ensemble cast leads this comedy-drama series, including Praew-Chermawee Suwanpanuchoke as Tukta, Tonhon Tantivejakul as Permpol, Tob-Chaiwat Thongsang as Thong Tien, Ter-Chantavit Dhanasevi as both Doctor Nat and Dr. Climax, and many more.
Kongdej Jaturanrasmee’s first television series he directs is called Doctor Climax. He gives producer and creator Ekachai Uekrongtham credit for the idea and context of the show, saying, “I began reading some samples of the published letters from that era, after Ekachai shared with me his idea of turning a sex Q&A column into a series.”
They mirrored a lot of the era’s social issues and were a truly enjoyable book to read. I got the idea for the other characters, the column, the publisher, and the idea of a doctor who responds to inquiries regarding sexual matters at that point. While making references to historical real-world events, this tale allows us to consider people and society.
