Disney steps up to the plate and releases the first trailer for their six-episode series, Becoming Karl Lagerfeld, just when you thought Daniel Bruhl (All Quiet on the Western Front) could get much more sexy and dapper.
The Golden Globe nominee’s impeccable style, from his fitted clothes to his signature spectacles, screams Karl Lagerfeld. The film is set years before the legendary fashion designer would go gray and pull his hair back into a ponytail. Supporting cast members Theodore Pellerin (Beau is Afraid) and Arnaud Valois (Good Grief) are also shown in the first teaser.
STORYLINE OF THE BECOMING KARL LAGERFELD SEASON 1:
The Becoming Karl Lagerfeld clip, set to the legendary 1978 Blondie hit “Heart of Glass,” shows off the early stages of the design icon’s ascent to fame. Lagerfeld followed his own rhythm and had an eye for design that other industry titans of the day had not yet recognized.
Blending the personal and the professional, the video suggests that viewers will also discover what happened to Lagerfeld during his free time, when he wasn’t creating sketches of his most recent project. The Parisian designer is shown having a good time under the disco ball and dancing on the dance floor.

Together with Bruhl, Pellerin, and Valois, the ensemble cast will also include Alex Lutz (Vortex) as co-founder Pierre Bergé of Yves Saint Laurent, Agnės Jaoui (The Sweet Escape) as Gabrielle Aghion, the creator of the Chloé fashion house and a major factor in Lagerfeld’s success, fashion designer Jeanne Damas as Paloma Picasso, singer Claire Laffut as Loulou de La Falaise, Sunnyi Melles (Triangle of Sadness) as Marlene Dietrich, Paul Spera (On the Line) as Andy Warhol, and Lisa Kreuzer (Dark) as Lagerfeld’s mother, Elisabeth Lagerfeld.
In addition to what promises to be yet another somber drama for the star of Rush, Inglourious Basterds, and TNT’s The Alienist, Bruhl will soon be seen in The Franchise, a satirical superhero series produced by Sam Mendes.
Alongside well-known actors including Jessica Hynes, Darren Goldstein, and Billy Magnussen, Brühl portrays a filmmaker entrusted with producing the next major superhero film for theaters. In an interview with Maggie Lovitt of Collider, Brühl expressed his happiness at being finally selected for a comedic role.
