White Noise, an adaptation of Don DeLillo’s 1985 novel of the same name, marks filmmaker Noah Baumbach’s return to Netflix ahead of the Oscars season.

Along with Don Cheadle from Black Monday, Adam Driver, who collaborated with Baumbach on Marriage Story, and Little Women director Greta Gerwig, Baumbach’s wife and longtime colleague, star in the catastrophe film/family drama.

Since the film debuted at the Venice Film Festival this year, there has been a lot of hype surrounding it. Interested in learning why and when you may view it for yourself? Follow the links to continue reading.

The focus of both the movie and the book is big-shot academic Jack Gladney, a professor of Hitler studies, and his family.

He has been married four times, and he and his pill-popping wife Babbette have a large brood of kids from prior marriages in addition to their own child.

The film starts out as a family drama, but things quickly turn dark when their Midwestern neighbourhood is affected by a “Airborne Toxic Event,” forcing them to flee in order to avoid the chemical fallout.

Greta Gerwig plays Babbette, the husband of the lead actor, Jack Gladney, a professor of Hitler studies. Gladney’s coworker Murray Siskind is portrayed by Don Cheadle.

Three of the four children that the Gladneys have are from prior unions. Raffey Cassidy plays Denise, May Nivola plays Steffie, and Sam Nivola plays Heinrich, Jack’s son from a previous marriage, who is also played by Babette. A little son is also the couple’s.

Jodie Turner-Smith of Queen & Slim, Lars Eidinger of Germany, and André Benjamin round out the cast.

Prior to the movie’s broader distribution, an audience score for White Noise will be added to its current 86% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

The majority of the reviews have been positive, and critics have praised both Driver and Gerwig for their performances. A fascinating, energising spectacle, according to The Guardian, which gave the film five stars.

Variety, on the other hand, didn’t seem to be as enamoured with the adaptation, referring to it as a “book of ideas” that didn’t quite work on the big screen.

Prior to its December 30 Netflix streaming debut, White Noise will debut in a few cinemas on November 25, 2022.
