Ukraine Ministers Meet Biden In Poland
For the first time, Ukraine’s Defense Minister Reznikov and Foreign Minister Kuleba met with their American colleagues.
At the Marriott Hotel in central Warsaw, US President Joe Biden met with Ukraine’s Foreign and Defense Ministers amid rising tensions between Russia and Ukraine. Since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine on February 24, this is Biden’s first meeting with top Kyiv officials.
Biden, along with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin, were seated in front of Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba and Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov throughout the meeting.
For the first time, Ukraine’s Defense Minister Reznikov and Foreign Minister Kuleba met with their American colleagues. They reviewed current events as well as bilateral cooperation in “political and defense directions.”
As Russia’s assault on Ukraine enters its second month, US President Joe Biden, who is now in Poland, is set to deliver a critical speech calling on the “free world” to ratchet up support for Ukraine.
The invasion of Ukraine by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24 put Nato and the West to the test. Nonetheless, Biden reassured Nato ally Poland of the US’s support in the case of a Russian strike, while also praising Poland’s embrace of millions of refugees fleeing Ukraine’s civil strife.
On the other hand, as Moscow’s “special operation” in Ukraine grinds to a halt in the face of tough opposition, it is shifting its military strategy.
Biden is in Poland for his second and final day after meeting with EU and NATO leaders in Brussels earlier this week.
He spoke with US soldiers stationed near the Ukrainian border in Poland on Friday, as well as aid workers assisting refugees escaping the fighting.
He hailed Ukrainians for their “bravery” in the face of the Russian invasion, comparing their defiance to the pro-democracy riots in China’s Tiananmen Square in 1989.
“He reminded the troops, “You’re in the heart of a struggle between democracies and autocrats.”
On Saturday, he will meet with Polish politicians, visit a refugee processing centre, and deliver a big address on the crisis.
In Poland, Biden Met With US Troops On The Ground
On Friday, US President Joe Biden arrived at the G2 Arena in Jasionka, Rzeszow, to meet with men of the 82nd Airborne Division, who have been deployed to NATO’s eastern flank in recent weeks.
Joe Biden, who spent Thursday pleading with US partners to remain united against Russia, thanked US troops stationed in NATO territory and had pizza with them. Biden is also informed on the humanitarian response to the influx of refugees from Ukraine during his visit to Rzeszow.
