Smiling Friend Season 2 Updates: The number of episodes in the first season of Smiling Friends for Adult Swim has been revealed by one of the show’s creators! The animated series’ pilot episode, which was produced by Zach Hadel and Michael Cusack of YOLO: Crystal Fantasy, premiered this week. the episode at Adult Swim’s April Fool’s Day celebration in 2020, and fans have been clamoring for more ever since. Smiling Friends was quickly picked up for a complete series, and Adult Swim announced early this spring that the whole series would premiere later this year.
But how many episodes will it have in its first season? With The Create Unknown podcast, cocreator Zach Hadel recently discussed the production of Smiling Friends’ first complete season, confirming that the first season will consist of eight episodes in total.
This includes the pilot, as Hadel adds that the whole series will consist of seven new episodes in addition to the already aired pilot. Check out Adult Swim’s initial announcement for a refresher on what to expect from this pilot:
According to Hadel, eight episodes is a good number for the first season because it will allow them to make more and at a faster pace for future seasons. He also mentioned that the series’ overall budget is quite modest, particularly when compared to fellow Adult Swim cartoon series Aqua Teen Hunger Force (which will soon be returning for a brand new movie). Hadel also stated that he and co-creator Cusack are heavily involved in the development.
Because of the limited budget and episode order, Hadel and Cusack were able to approve every little detail of the pilot and subsequent new episodes frame by frame.
As of this writing, there is no release date or window set for Smiling Friends’ complete series debut on Adult Swim, but what do you think of this number of episodes for the first season? Smiling Friends Inc. provides a helping hand to every city dweller who phones its hotline in the show. The firm always sends cynical Charlie and star employee Pim to save the day, no matter how ridiculous the issue is. Smiling Friends is an upcoming quarter-hour animated series on Adult Swim that will launch later this year.
YOLO: Crystal Fantasy, Cusack’s debut program with Adult Swim, consistently won the half-hour across ad-supported cable among all adult demos. In addition, it outperformed the important late-night competitors in young adult demos by double and triple digits. Hellbenders, a YouTube series, is one of Hadel’s authoring credentials.
