PUBG Authorities Probing Alleged Killing Due to Game’s Influence : Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar: Technology Updates Today

Police are looking into a “media report that a child has killed his mother based on PUBG that he has been playing,” Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar stated on Friday.

In response to a question on the government’s directive to delete mobile applications and the rationale behind the removal of apps starting in 2020, Chandrasekhar stated that the government’s goals are to ensure that its users have access to an open, safe, trusted, and accountable internet.

He stated in a different written response that the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021, had been made public by the government.

If an app is deemed illegal under the current law, the rules allow for its removal from the playstore or appstore upon request from the relevant government or its authorized agency.

He added. The minister added that MeitY does not maintain any information regarding the withdrawal of mobile applications under the IT Rules of 2021.
