Who is Frida Kahlo?
Portrait Sell Updates: Frida Kahlo, also known as Magdalena Carmen Frida Kahlo y Calderon was a painter of Mexican descent and was famous for her portraits, self-portraits to be very accurate. Most of her work was inspired by the artifacts and nature of Mexico.
The painter was born to a Mestizo mother and a German father spent most of his lifetime at La Casa Azul. She also was disabled with polio as a child and had been a promising student at studies as well. But, at the age of 18 she suffered from a bus accident after which the tables turned.
The accident caused her a pain for a lifetime and medical problems that persisted with her till she died at 47. While she was on her journey to recovery, she however, develop her childhood interest again in art and had this idea of becoming an artist. She had also eminent interest in Politics, which led her to join the Mexican communist party in the year of 1927.
It was a self-portrait which she made of her which got sold out for $34.9 million at an auction which was organised in the New York City. This so far set an benchmark for any of the portrait sold of any artist of Latin American descent. The sale, was for the 1954 portrait of title “Diego Y yo” which means Diego and I. The portrait offers an insight into the turbulent marriage she has been into with the muralist Diego Rivera of the same Mexican descent.
The husband is depicted at the center of her forehead in the portrait just above Kahlo’s eyes.
However, the tearful painting was completed after she died at the age of 47. The artwork was acquired by Eduardo F. Constantini’s private collection. The collection supports and promotes the art from Latin America.
