Ms. Marvel is a new addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe canon, introducing the first Muslim superhero, the first Pakistani American superhero, and the first superhero who is also an Avengers superfan. Ms. Marvel Episode 1, which premiered on Wednesday at 12:30 IST, also included a post-credits sequence, making it the first time a post-credits scene has been appended to the first episode of a Marvel Cinematic Universe series. Of course, Marvel is no stranger to post-credits scenes, as the studio is largely responsible for popularising them. It’s employed to bring in a pair of adults who will no doubt stand in Kamala Khan’s (Iman Vellani) way on Ms. Marvel episode 1, which is bereft of enemies.

Highlights

  • Ms. Marvel episode 1 is now available on Disney+ and Disney+ Hotstar.
  • Alysia Reiner’s MCU character is introduced in a mid-credits sequence.
  • Ms. Marvel episode 2 will be released on June 15 internationally.

You do so at your own risk.Mid credits scene from Ms. Marvel episode 1Kamala and her best buddy Bruno (Matt Lintz) visit AvengerCon in the first episode of the new Marvel series, where Kamala unexpectedly discovers she now has superpowers. It appears that the bangle she received in the mail from her Nani (maternal grandmother) may have played a role in this.

Kamala isn’t used to having superpowers, so it’s only logical that she would use them to cause mayhem at AvengerCon. Though her abilities first dazzle the crowd, things quickly deteriorate once she snaps the cables holding a giant (fake) Mjolnir aloft. As the Mjolnir begins to swing like a pendulum, Kamala’s classmate Zoe (Laurel Marsden), who is also in the Captain Marvel cosplay with her, is caught in the way.

As a stunned Kamala gasped in horror, Zoe clutches the Mjolnir for dear life. Zoe, on the other hand, eventually loses her grip and is hurled into the air. Even though she has no idea how her abilities operate, Kamala leaps into action and catches Zoe before she falls, her right arm elongating (like Elastigirl from The Incredibles) and her hand swelling in size. This is accurate for Ms. Marvel’s abilities in the comic books.

Given that all of this occurs at a large fan gathering, individuals in attendance record and broadcast Kamala’s shenanigans — clad in her Captain Marvel costume — all over the Internet. That’s where the Ms. Marvel episode 1 mid-credits sequence starts, with a detective using her phone to record Kamala’s actions at AvengerCon. “Check this out,” Agent Deever (Alysia Reiner, Orange Is the New Black) says to her partner Agent Cleary (Arian Moayed, Succession) after seeing a portion of the footage.

At AvengerCon, a teen female.”By the way, this isn’t the first time we’ve seen Agent Cleary. Last year’s interdimensional adventure SpiderMan: No Way Home featured Moayed in a minor role as a Department of Damage Control official, in which he briefly interrogated Peter Parker, his friends, and his family after Parker’s SpiderMan identity was revealed to the world. He’s the first MCU character to appear on Ms. Marvel, in the same way that Randall Park’s FBI agent Jimmy Woo went from Ant-Man and the Wasp to the bizarre sitcom WandaVision.

Anyway, back to the mid-credits sequence from Ms. Marvel episode 1. “A cosplayer with too much time on their hands,” Cleary adds, glancing at the video Deever had given him. But it appears that Cleary hasn’t gotten to the exciting part yet — where Kamala’s limbs will accomplish what the rest of us can’t — as Deever responds, “Not this one.” That’s the first time I’ve ever seen such abilities.”

Cleary’s demeanor shifts as he focuses on the video, and he adds, “Whoa. Yes, please bring her in.” Deever nods and goes away, but the camera lingers on Cleary’s expression as if he had a hidden agenda. Or maybe I’m just overthinking things. Ms. Marvel releases new episodes every Wednesday, so we’ll most likely learn more. Ms. Marvel season 2 premieres on Disney+ and Disney+ Hotstar on June 15 at 12:30 pm IST/12 am PT.
