Kim Jong Un has threatened to use nuclear weapons amid hostilities with the United States and South Korea.

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un reportedly threatened on Thursday that he is ready to use nuclear weapons in any future military conflicts with the US and South Korea.

This was according to state media. He also launched a tirade of hateful words against adversaries he thinks are provoking conflict on the Korean Peninsula.

Kim’s speech to veterans on the 69th anniversary of the conclusion of the 1950–1953 Korean War appeared to be an effort to strengthen internal cohesion in the economically struggling, impoverished nation.

According to some experts, North Korea will likely escalate its threats against the United States and South Korea as the allies get ready to extend summertime drills that the North views as an invasion practice.

In his speech on Wednesday, Kim reportedly said that “our armed forces are fully prepared to respond to any crisis” along with the statement that “our country’s nuclear war deterrent is also ready to mobilize its absolute power dutifully, precisely, and quickly in accordance with its mission.”

He claimed that joint military exercises between the United States and South Korea expose the latter’s “double standards” and “gangster-like” characteristics by characterizing North Korea’s routine military actions — possibly a reference to its missile tests — as provocations or threats.

Yoon’s conservative government is led by “gangsters,” according to Kim, who also dubbed Yoon Suk Yeol, the new president of South Korea, “a confrontation maniac” who has gone further than previous South Korean leaders.

Since taking May, the Yoon government has moved to strengthen Seoul’s military alliance with the United States and bolster its capability to neutralize North Korean nuclear threats, including a preemptive strike capability.

It is absurd and extremely dangerous to discuss military action against our country, which has the weapons that they dread the most, Kim stated.

“The government of Yoon Suk Yeol and his military would be totally destroyed if such a dangerous attempt is made, says our powerful strength.”

According to some international experts, Kim has been escalating his nuclear program this year in an effort to win concessions from the outside world and foster more domestic unification.

Kim stated in April that North Korea could utilize nuclear weapons as the first line of defense it threatened:

The military of Kim has also fired off nuclear-capable missiles in test launches, putting both the U.S.mainland and South Korea within striking distance, declaring that they will “never be confined to the single mission of war deterrent.”

Kim is striving to win over a larger proportion of the public as his country’s economy has been gravely affected by pandemic-related border closures, American-led sanctions, and his own poor management.

In May, North Korea also acknowledged having its first COVID-19 epidemic, however, the severity of the illness and number of fatalities are debatable in a nation without access to advanced healthcare.

Professor Leif-Eric Easley at Seoul’s Ewha University claimed that Kim’s rhetoric “inflates external threats to justify his militarily focused and economically struggling regime.”

Despite the fact that North Korea’s nuclear and missile programs are prohibited by international law, Kim tries to justify his erratic armaments buildup as a self-defense measure.

Apparently making reference to U.S.-led sanctions and U.S.-South Korean military exercises, it declared that its adversaries must first give up their hostile policies toward the North.

The Defense Ministry of South Korea announced last week that this year’s summertime military drills with the United States would include field training in addition to the usual computer-simulated tabletop exercises for the first time since 2018.

Recently, a number of the South Korean and American forces’ usual training exercises were canceled or scaled back because of COVID-19 and to assist the now-stalled U.S.-led talks aimed at convincing North Korea to give up its nuclear program in exchange for economic and diplomatic benefits.
