Joe Biden Updates: (CNN)With just over 200 days until the election in 2022, there’s no evidence that President Joe Biden’s poll numbers are improving — and some evidence that they’re worsening.

Biden’s approval rating is merely 39 percent, according to CNN’s poll of polls, which is an average of the latest four national polls of Americans. These figures haven’t altered much since CNN’s poll of polls measured 40 percent approval/54 percent disapproval in March, or 41 percent approval/54 percent disapproval in mid-January.

They also show that the polling boost Biden received in the days following his State of the Union speech in early March was only transient, and not indicative of a longer-term recovery. All of this is bad news for Democrats, whose electoral fortunes are inextricably linked to Biden’s popularity, according to history (or lack thereof).

As of 2018, when the president’s approval rating went below 50%, the average seat loss for the president’s party in a midterm election was 37 House seats.

CONSIDER THE FOLLOWING TWO FACTS:

1) Bill Clinton’s approval rating was 46 percent in November 1994, when Republicans won a net of 54 House seats and retook control of the House majority, according to Gallup.

2) According to Gallup, Barack Obama’s approval rating was 45 percent in November 2010, when Republicans won a net of 63 House seats and retook control of the House majority. Not only is Biden’s job popularity rating significantly below that of his two most recent Democratic predecessors when they suffered these crushing losses, but Republicans now only need a net gain of five seats to reclaim the House majority.

THE MORE YOU LOOK INTO BIDEN’S FIGURES, THE WORSE THE NEWS BECOMES

Take, for example, a poll released by Quinnipiac University on Wednesday. Biden’s overall approval rating is low, at 33 percent among adults and 35 percent among registered voters. When it comes to the percentage of adults who highly approve of Biden’s job performance against those who strongly disagree, things don’t get any better for him.

When it comes to the percentage of adults who highly approve of Biden’s job performance against those who strongly disagree, things don’t get any better for him. Only 18 percent highly approve of Biden’s performance as president, while more than twice as many (43 percent) strongly disagree. That reveals a significant passion divide between the two parties. Passionate individuals vote, especially in midterm elections. The fact that there is no visible event on the horizon that could turn things around for Biden and the Democrats adds to their problems.
