The film Joan, which is set in the bold and ambitious world of 1980s London, stars Sophie Turner, who plays the infamous jewel thief Joan Hannington in real life.

In addition to ITV1 in the UK and its free streaming channel ITVX, the six-part drama Joan will premiere on The CW in the US. The six-part series is directed by the acclaimed Richard Laxton (The Thief, His Wife, and the Canoe), while writer Anna Symon (Mrs. Wilson) is behind the camera. It’s based on Joan’s autobiographies, which describe her incredible journey from small-time criminal to mastermind of a gang.

PLOT UPDATES OF JOAN SEASON 1

When Joan starts off, she is in her twenties and in a terrible marriage to a violent man named Gary. She takes advantage of the opportunity to flee her old life with her daughter Debbie, age four, while Gary is on the run.

 Motivated by her need to provide for Debbie and give her daughter a safe haven, Joan embarks on a journey of self-improvement that involves some painful choices. We track Joan’s life’s turns, ups and downs, pain and delight, making full use of her perceptive intelligence, charisma, and skill for mimicry and performance.

Through assuming various identities and forming new connections, Joan develops into an expert diamond thief. Fueled by her desire to provide for her daughter and make their home safe, she sets off on an exciting, high-stakes adventure that tests her limits.

CAST DETAILS OF JOAN SEASON 1

Sophie Turner portrays Joan Hannington, a former jewellery thief who was a small-time criminal in the series Joan. She starred in X-Men Apocalypse and the HBO Max and Sky series The Staircase after making her acting debut as Sansa Stark in the epic fantasy series Game of Thrones.

In addition, Kirsty J. Curtis (Harlots) plays Joan’s older sister and salon worker Nancy, and Gershwyn Eustache Jr. (I May Destroy You, Top Boy) plays Albie, an old friend of Boisie who has moved to Spain with his wife Val, played by Laura Aikman (The Split, Gavin & Stacey).

 Frank Dillane (The Essex Serpent) plays London antiques dealer Boisie. Nick Blood (Safe), Jack Greenlees (Strike), Caroline Faber (Grantchester), Alex Blake (The Crown), and Dorothy Atkinson (The Gold, Stonehouse) are also joining the series.
