Hello, Goodbye, and Everything in Between is an upcoming American drama film directed by Michael Lewen, who is making his directorial debut, and based on a script by Ben York Jones and Amy Reed. Jennifer E. Smith’s book of the same name inspired the film.
The book was released in 2015 and is the eighth of Smith’s ten young adult novels. Field Notes on Love, another of her works, is being adapted into a film for HBO Max. Dove Cameron and Jordan Fisher will appear in this version, making Fisher the leading man in two adaptations of Smith’s novel.
A film adaptation of her book Windfall, starring Haley Lu Richardson and Ben Hardy, is also in the works. If you liked the film Hello, Goodbye, and Everything in Between, there will be more adaptations in the future.
What could be the plot of Hello, Goodbye, and Everything in Between?
Clare (Talia Ryder) and Aidan (Jordan Fisher) are two high school grads who “retrace the steps of their relationship on one more epic date.” This retracing will help them decide whether they should break up at the end of the night as they both head off to college, or whether they should stay together and work through long-distance relationships.
Many people may relate to this decision, even if it’s only choosing whether or not a long-distance relationship is a good idea when one person moves away for college, career, or family reasons. The events in the book take place over the period of twelve hours, making it a truly epic final date.
Clare and Aidan are taken to “family and friends, familiar landmarks and unexpected places, hard truths, and startling revelations,” according to the book, all of which aid them in making their decision at the end of the night.
Expect to see this throughout the film, as well as the two making a final decision when the sun rises. The narrative does not reveal this conclusion, but viewers can hope that as we travel with them, we will agree with their final decision.
