Earth Too Can Have Saturn- Like Rings, But They Will Be Made Up Of Space Junk: Researchers!

Earth Too Can Have Updates: According to the European Space Agency, there are presently 170 million bits of space trash in orbit around the Earth. Saturn’s ring system is the most magnificent and intricate in our solar system, as it is the sixth planet from the Sun and the second largest. According to experts at the University of Utah in the United States, Earth may soon develop its own set of rings. However, the rings that may form around our planet will be made up of cosmic debris. This is unsurprising given the growing number of defunct satellites and increasing anti-satellite experiments, the most recent of which was conducted by Russia.

Researcher Says, Earth Too Can Have Saturn – According to the European Space Agency, there are presently 170 million bits of space trash in orbit around the Earth (ESA). The majority of them are minor, but a few are significant enough to pose a threat to spacecraft and orbital missions. Space trash, which is considered pollution, has increased considerably in recent decades, by around 7,500 metric tonnes

Earth Too Can Have Saturn

The Salt Lake Tribune quoted Jake Abbott, a robotics professor at the University of Utah, as saying, “Earth is on track to have its own rings.” He went on to say, “They’ll just be made of garbage.” Abbott has a long history of dealing with magnets. Magnets are currently being used by him and his team of engineers to research ways to clear up space garbage.

The researchers claim to have worked out how to use magnetic fields to rapidly spin magnets and influence items at the center, even if they are not formed of magnetic metal, such as space junk. They put their theory to the test by moving a copper ball on a plastic raft in a water tank. The magnets rotated the sphere as well as moving it in a square.

According to the researchers, the technology could one day be used to let robots transport debris into decaying orbits or away into space without having to physically touch it. The findings were reported in a recent issue of the journal Nature. It’s now just a matter of engineering, according to Abbott, of developing and launching the equipment to form Earth’s own rings.

HIGHLIGHTS;

  • Approximately 170 million bits of space trash currently orbit Earth, some of which are large enough to pose a threat to space trips.
  • In the last few decades, the amount of space trash has increased considerably.
