As a follow-up to the 2007 film Enchanted, Disenchanted is an upcoming American live-action/animated musical fantasy romantic comedy film written and directed by Adam Shankman.

Amy Adams, Patrick Dempsey, James Marsden, and Idina Menzel return as Amy Adams, Patrick Dempsey, James Marsden, and Idina Menzel, with Gabriella Baldacchino replacing Rachel Covey. Maya Rudolph, Yvette Nicole Brown, Jayma Mays, and Oscar Nunez are among the newcomers.

Disenchanted Plot

According to Disney news site The DisInsider, Giselle will purportedly leave the Big Apple for the suburbs with Robert and Morgan in “Disenchanted.” However, the story does not have a happy ending. According to the DisInsider, the tension begins when “Giselle makes a wish to turn their life into a wonderful fairy-tale.” Of course, in a film titled “Disenchanted,” nothing goes according to plan.

Giselle’s spell fails, forcing her to “race against the clock to save both her family and the Kingdom of Andalasia before the clock strikes midnight.”Rudolph’s character is said to be involved with the suburban enclave in which Giselle finds herself, and the Seven Dwarfs will appear in the film.

It’s worth noting that not all of these details have been formally confirmed at the time of writing. Even if the specifics are correct, there are still a lot of possibilities. What role will Prince Edward and Nancy have in the plot? Is it possible that Queen Narissa will make an appearance? Who are the new characters that Brown, Mays, Stewart, and Nunez are portraying?

The Cast of the Movie

Amy Adams will resume her role as Giselle in the sequel, which should come as no surprise. Amy Adams declared in 2016 that she would “not allow anyone else to play Giselle,” and she reiterated in 2018 that she is still “totally up for it” if the sequel is created.

Robert will be played by Patrick Dempsey, Prince Edward will be played by James Marsden, and Nancy will be played by Idina Menzel, so she won’t be the only original cast member to return. We got our first look at Adams and Dempsey as Giselle and Robert thanks to the reshoots, so if you missed them the first time, check them out here.

Malvina, Giselle’s new antagonist, will be played by Maya Rudolph, while Yvette, Malvina’s child, will be played by Kolton Stewart. Robert’s grownup daughter Morgan will be played by Gabriella Baldacchino, while Giselle’s new rival Malvina will be played by Maya Rudolph.

Nicole Brown will portray Rosalyn, Jayma Mays will portray Ruby, and Oscar Nunez will portray Edgar. We don’t know much about Rudolph’s opponent, although she did speak about it in May 2021, noting that she wasn’t originally interested in playing the role.

She said, “If you had asked me 15 years ago if I wanted to play the evil guy, I would have answered, ‘Geez, I don’t know.’”However, I’ve realized that playing The Most is the most delightful thing to do over the years.” Behind the scenes, Hairspray’s Adam Shankman is directing the film, and Enchanted lyricists Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz have returned to write new songs for the sequel.

Release Date

Disenchanted will premiere on Disney+ on Thanksgiving Day, November 24, 2022, for those outside the United States. We also got our first official glimpse at Amy Adams reprising her role as Giselle, alongside newcomer Maya Rudolph as the wicked Malvina Monroe, to coincide with the release date announcement.
