Deepika Padukone On Here Appearance On The Cannes Jury: It Took Generations Of Work From Many People To Get Us Here!!!

Deepika Padukone Updates: Deepika Padukone, who is on the jury for the Cannes Film Festival this year, expresses her gratitude for the opportunity to represent India on a worldwide stage and believes that Indian film is set for a global breakthrough. Since 2010, Deepika Padukone has been turning heads – and making her presence felt – at the Cannes Film Festival, whether in a bright pink ruffled gown or stunning lime-green tulle. This year, however, will be different.

Deepika will be a member of the Cannes jury, which will be led by actor-filmmaker Vincent Lindon, at the 75th edition of the festival, which begins today. Other members of the jury include actresses Cand Noomi Rapace, actor-director Jasmine Trinca, and directors Asghar Farhadi, Jeff Nichols, Ladj Ly, and Joachim Trier. This isn’t only a personal achievement for Deepika.

“There is a sense of gratitude and being really overwhelmed after being an actor for 15 years, for your work to finally be recognised on a worldwide level like this, and to be able to represent the country,” the actress says as she speaks with us before leaving for Cannes. She also discusses how she plans to embrace her new role, as well as the changing Indian film environment.

Though she’s had a stronghold in Bollywood for a long time – with roles in Gehraiyaan (2022), Chapak (2020), and Piku (2015), to name a few – and has been-there-done-that in Hollywood (with Vin Diesel’s xXx: The Return Of Xander Cage), is this global recognition something she planned for or anticipated?

“I mean, I’ve always had this core idea – that if you put your energy behind something with the appropriate intention, it will manifest.” All you need is a good aim and, I believe, patience. So, deep down inside, I’ve always believed that ‘here is where we belong,’ and I’m not just speaking for myself; I’m speaking for all South Asian talent in general.

And it appears like this is finally happening. It should have happened much sooner, but I guess things happen at their own pace. It took generations of effort from a variety of people to bring us here.” Deepika says, “And somewhere, I feel grateful for being able to serve in my own small way.”

I don’t see it as just a personal success; I see it as a much broader victory for everyone from our region of the world.” Deepika, who has represented India on the red carpet, now hopes to do so as a jury member.

“Whenever I went to Cannes in the past, the expectations were quite different,” she explains. When I’ve gone there before, there was a ‘fun factor,’ and I’ve never apologised for it. But I believe that as a jury member, I will adopt a new perspective. As a result, one must sort of prepare accordingly.”
