Billy Wilder & Me Adaption Will Star Christoph Waltz

Billy Wilder’s life story is about to be adapted into a film. Stephen Frears will direct Billy Wilder & Me, based on Jonathan Coe’s fan-favorite novel Mr. Wilder & Me, which will be released later this year.

Christoph Waltz (Inglorious Bastards) has signed on to play the eponymous character and Hollywood legend Wilder, with no other cast members, yet announced.

Christopher Hampton (Dangerous Liaisons), a legendary Oscar-winning screenplay writer, will adapt the story for the big screen.
Christos V. Konstantakopoulous and Reinhard Brundig will collaborate on the project.

In 1977, a young woman travels to Athens to collaborate with the great director on his film Fedora. While the woman has little knowledge of Wilder and his contributions to cinema, she quickly finds herself in over her head as she dives head first into the world of beauty and all the excitement that comes with it.

Wilder’s dazzling light is beginning to dim as the woman dips her toes into the entertainment pool. Hollywood has turned down his latest on-screen fantasy, forcing the filmmaker to look to Germany for the funds he needs to make his picture a reality.

Wilder quickly departs the lovely shores of Greece for Munich, where he will continue filming his project, with the woman accompanying him. Wilder gradually opens himself and shares his entire universe with the naive young woman as the two get closer.

Both Frears and Waltz delivered short but lovely statements announcing the film’s announcement and casting reveal, with Frears saying, “Europe and Hollywood.” Hollywood and Europe are two of the most popular destinations in the world. “It’s the most intriguing conundrum I’ve ever seen in a movie.”

“Billy Wilder said, ‘You have to have a dream so you can wake up in the morning,'” Waltz added, expressing his enthusiasm for the new endeavor. “I’m hoping for a Stephen Frears feature based on a Christopher Hampton script produced by Jeremy Thomas,” says the director.

Waltz and the rest of the cast and crew will be excited to get out of bed in the mornings because filming will take place in stunning locales such as Greece, Munich, and Paris. Wilder received eight Academy Award nominations for Best Director, which he would win twice. He is widely regarded as one of the most important figures in classic Hollywood filmmaking.

He was also a gifted screenwriter, winning the Academy Award for best script for three films and receiving 13 nominations.

Sunset Boulevard, The Spirit of St. Louis, The Apartment, and Some Like It Hot were just a few of the films directed by Wilder.

Billy Wilder & Me promises to delve into the world of the famed director as his life unfolds through the eyes of the protagonist.

The project has yet to be given a release date, but Collider will keep you updated as more information becomes available.
